안녕하세요! (Hello! — an-nyeong-ha-se-yo)
I’m so excited!!! I received the four Korean drama books I ordered!
I purchased them from The Korean Book Center in Los Angeles. It’s the oldest Korean bookstore in the L.A. The store is located in the Koreatown Plaza. The owner, Mark Choi, was extremely nice and answered all my questions!
Two of the books are based on 2012 television shows and the other two books are based 2012 movies.
Book 1: 풀하우스 테이크 2 – Full House Take 2 (Pulhauseu Teikeu). The romantic comedy is about a fashionable Taekwondo teacher, Jang Man-ok (which means “Full House”), who becomes a stylist for a popular boy idol group TAKE ONE. Through a plot twist, she ends up living with superstar and temperamental idol, Lee Tae-ik, who inherited a luxurious mansion from his deceased parents. The mansion’s name: “Full House.” Jang Man-ok ends up falling for both idols, Lee and Won Kang-hwi — who in turn fall for her.
*Jang and Lee’s hair drove me crazy! I quickly got over it and into the story. Fortunately, they changed hairstyles toward the end! I loved the story^^*

Book 2: 늑대소년 (Neukdae Sonyeon) – A Werewolf Boy. The fantasy romance is about a teen girl, who goes to the country for health reasons. While there, she discovers a dangerous, but kind teen boy — who just happens to be a werewolf. The movie was featured at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and the Busan International Film Festival. The movie stars: Song Joong-ki and Park Bo-young.
Book 3: 신의 (Shin-eui) – Faith aka The Great Doctor. The historical fantasy romance is about a royal guard leader from the Goryeo Dynasty (1300s), who kidnaps a modern-day plastic surgeon to save a princess…by traveling back in time. The drama stars: Lee Min-ho and Kim Hee-sun.
*This is a fun show. It’s action-packed, romantic and Kim Hee-sun has super funny dialogue.*

Book 4: 반창꼬 (Banchanggyeo) – Love 911 aka Bandage. A romantic dramedy about a fiery doctor who falls in love with a dedicated firefighter with a troubled past. The movie stars: Han Hyo-Joo and Ko Soo.
*Haven’t seen this one, either. But the trailer looks awesome! So, I had to get the book!*

I also received two cute bookmarks! 감사합니다 (Thank you — kam-sa-ham-nida) Korean Book Center!
Oh…and want to see what one of the books looks like inside?
Yeah, I’m so not ready to read any of these lovely books at the moment. At least I can spell the words! *Grabs Korean-English dictionary*
ㅃㅃ – bye-bye…for now!

Interesting!
Did this new interest come from learning the language? Why did you decide to learn it?
After watching several Kdramas, I began to wonder if I could write a Kdrama. I read online that many YA authors enjoyed watching these programs. Some even said, Kdramas helped them with their own fiction writing. I haven’t used it for fiction, yet. But if I were to write a script, I would have to know more about the country and culture. When I discovered the language was fairly easy to learn, I decided to try it out. I like it so far! I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get a Kdrama for television produced in Korea. I’m sure I’d have to live there while the show is being filmed. Many shows are filmed the day before or the same day it’s being broadcasted on air. Although, there is email! As for movies, many prominent South Korean directors are starting to work with the American Film Industry. The Korean Film Council has an L.A. branch which provides networking opportunities to Korean-US Film industry professionals, including co-productions. Right now, it’s just for fun. But I never know where it might lead…maybe somewhere I never expected! I once read in a screenwriting magazine that screenwriting for foreign markets can be extremely lucrative to one’s career.
I am Korean, and if you want you can email it to me and I’ll look over it. As for recommending a Korean drama, Jeon Woo Chi is THE BEST SHOW EVER! The episodes are online, and it’s ending this Friday. Sadly, there are only 24 episodes. There’s also a movie called Jeon Woo Chi, though I haven’t seen it. Jeon Woo Chi is based on a Korean novel.
Thanks, Esther! I’ll take you up on that
I’ll check out Jeon Woo Chi. Is it available on Viki?
